Christmas at Soleil

My mother and her family were French Canadian and emigrated to Rhode Island just in time for the depression. During WWII my mother made life rafts for the Navy at the local mill while my dogface father dodged bullets and drove supply trucks in Europe. My mother made an awesome shepherd's pie (which I've never been able to duplicate), but she never made poutine -- that intriguing combo of french fries and cheese curds with a brown sauce.

Soleil is a French Canadian restaurant right here in Westwood just a few blocks south of Wilshire. The meaty ducks and tender lamb chops are served with subtle and savory sauces. The service and the atmosphere is friendly and helpful. Try the pate. The wine list serves all palates. They have a great happy hour going on now. Don't forget the poutine.
